Among the most important films of 2021 that are still on the release schedule, there is one title that fans know very little about: The long-awaited fourth matrix, which is currently slated for release on December 22 in theaters and on HBO Max. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are back, along with little new AdditionsBut what the movie is called, or what it looks like, remains a complete mystery with less than four months to go until its release. So far.

You can’t keep that kind of information from the people who will be watching your movie, which is why Warner Bros. At CinemaCon 2021 that the movie, written and directed by Lana Wachowski, is called The Matrix: Resurrections. We’ve also seen the first shots.

It starts with a very shiny city. A psychiatrist (Neil Patrick Harris) sits with a patient named Thomas. Thomas is Reeves and he has problems. He says he has dreams that aren’t exactly dreams. We see him walking in the street with the green matrix cipher. “Am I crazy?” Asked. The doctor replied, “We don’t say that.” Thomas then sits in the bathtub with a rubber duck on his head. He enters a cafe and greets Trinity. “Have we met?” She asks as they shake hands.

We see that Thomas is eating blue pills at home. He looks up at the sky and sees a group of birds flying. He is trying to analyze it. Next, he was in an elevator with a group of people on their phones and looking at everyone’s reflection looking at the screens. Here begins the song “White Rabbit”.

Yahya Abd al-Mateen II appears as a character just like Morpheus and offers Thomas a red pill. He meets a blue-haired man who has a bunny tattoo. It all sounds familiar to us, the audience, because that’s kind of… the matrix repeatedly?

Neo and the blue-haired person walk through the mirror. It is in a cafe. Then in a very quiet dojo, on a lake, with the character of Abdul-Mateen. “The only thing you care about is still here,” he says. “You will never give up.” They begin to perform martial arts, and when Thomas hits Abdul-Mateen’s figure hard in the chest and flies out of the room.

Thomas and the blue-haired person on a train. A sniper’s bullet is fired from a distance and flies across the train towards them. A lot of action scenes are now being cut very quickly. We see the people fields attached to the matrix. The triad is separated in the matrix. The blue-haired person jumps over a car in slow motion. Thomas holds bullets in the air. A helicopter fires a missile at Thomas and Trinity, and Thomas changes direction in mid-air and fires it at another helicopter. Next, Thomas was in an office with a man in a business suit played by Jonathan Groff. “You’ll go back to where it all began,” he says. “Back to the Matrix.” Then the address: the matrix, which fades, and then Resurrection.

It feels a lot like everything that happened before with Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus is happening again, just with subtle changes. Characters are destined to live the same stories over and over again. or something like that. We don’t really know. But damned if it doesn’t look as big and action-packed as we expected.

Co-starring Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick and Jonathan Groff, The Matrix: Resurrections Opens December 22.
