BOGOTA (Reuters) – Avianca Holdings (NYSE): airline, which is in the process of finalizing its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, is offering about 100 pilots who left the company after a 2017 strike a chance to join the company, She said on Thursday.

“Without a doubt, today we are celebrating a milestone in our history and this is a golden opportunity to start from scratch, to advance the teamwork and build the Avianca we all need,” said CEO and President, Adrian Neuhauser.

The airline suffered a 51-day pilots’ strike between September and November 2017, grounding half of its fleet resulting in dozens of pilots being fired, while others resigned or retired.

It added that the plan would allow the airline to operate more than 200 direct routes with its fleet of more than 130 aircraft by 2025.

Pilots returning to Avianca will do so under the same terms that were agreed with pilots in 2020, while the company plans to start a training program that goes beyond the requirements of aviation regulations.

Avianca has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after the coronavirus pandemic hit it. A US court approved the company’s restructuring plan in November.
