The Pentagon forms a new task force to investigate UFO sightings

The Pentagon has. The Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) will succeed the US Navy’s Unknown Weather Phenomena Task Force. According to the Department of Defense, “The AOIMSG will synchronize efforts across the department and the broader US government to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in Special Use (SUA) airspace, and to assess and mitigate any threats to aviation safety and citizen security.”

The task force’s formation follows the release of a report in June in which the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) examined an “unidentified weather phenomenon.” In only one case were officials able to determine the cause of the sighting. For every other incident detailed in that report, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said there was little data to infer what happened. If the US government has any chance of understanding UFOs better, ODNI said it will need to deploy more resources and a unified approach across different agencies. The Department of Defense appears to have taken this recommendation seriously.
